Dr. Octavious Bishop

Octavious Bishop’s life’s story bridges the gaps between wounds, scars, and beauty marks.  Being raised by a single mother in poverty during the crack cocaine age left untreated mental and emotional wounds that lasted throughout his childhood and into his teens.  Octavious struggled academically from elementary school through middle school, but his life would change after moving to Houston Texas from Milwaukee WS. and attending Westfield HS.  The stars would align and Octavious would be introduced to a legendary high school football and collegiate football coach named Emory Bellard.  For the first time in his life Octavious would be told he was capable of being smart, and through mentorship and guidance from Emory Bellard and his coaching staff he had someone advocating for his overall success.  He would start high school in SPED and below level classes, but by the end of his high school career he would become an honor roll student in the classroom, and an All-American football player with over one-hundred scholarship offers.  The relational investment of his coaches and teacher in high school would pay off, and he would reach his dreams on the field as a four-year starting, all conference Offensive Tackle at UT, and play for four professional football teams.  The Atlanta Falcons, NFL-Europe (Amsterdam Admirals), Oakland Raiders, and the XFL’s Chicago Enforcers.

Today Dr. Bishop is a Full time Lecturer at the UT-Steve Hicks School of Social Work and Associate Adjunct Professor-ACC.  He is the President/Founder of Eye Level Consulting, and serves as a board member for SAFE Alliance whose mission is to “Stop Abuse for Everyone,” he serves on the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion committee.   His role at the Steve Hick’s School of Social Work is to develop and define the role of social work in sports at every level.  He teaches multiple courses each calendar year at UT.

His company Eye Level Consulting was created and founded on three principles.  Mentorship, Leadership, and Inclusivity/The power of the locker room experience.  He has presented at the National Ambulance Conference for SOLUTIONS GROUP, University of West Florida Athletics Department, and Student-Athletes, and for twenty years given countless motivational speeches and been the keynote speaker for multiple events.

Bishop’s passions and values are expressed in his willingness to relationally invest in his faith, family, community, and city.  The journey of the underdog is what motivates and inspires him to keep moving forward doing work that changes lives for the better.  Dr. Bishop loves and values the early morning, hiking, lifting weights, traveling with wife Elizabeth and three children.
